ROCKFALL BARRIERS

About Product
Advanced Rockfall Protection System for Mountain Infrastructure

JB Engineering Rockfall Barriers are engineered safety systems designed to intercept, absorb, and control falling rocks in mountainous and unstable terrain. These systems play a critical role in protecting highways, railways, tunnels, dams, and infrastructure projects located near steep rock slopes.

In many mountainous regions, rockfall events occur due to weathering, seismic activity, heavy rainfall, blasting operations, or natural slope instability. Detached rocks can travel downhill at high speeds through sliding, bouncing, and rolling motions, creating serious risks to nearby infrastructure and transportation networks.

JB Engineering Rockfall Barrier Systems are designed with high-tensile steel mesh, energy-absorbing cables, anchor rods, and structural posts that dissipate impact forces and safely stop falling rocks before they reach vulnerable areas. These systems provide reliable slope protection while reducing maintenance and long-term infrastructure risks.

WHAT IS A ROCKFALL BARRIER?

A Rockfall Barrier is a protective structure installed along unstable slopes or infrastructure corridors to prevent falling rocks from reaching roads, railways, tunnels, and construction areas.

Steep Mountain Slopes

Installed along steep terrain where rock fragments may detach from cliffs due to erosion or geological activity.

Highway & Railway Protection

Protects transportation corridors passing through mountainous terrain from rockfall hazards.

Tunnel Entrance Zones

Installed near tunnel portals where falling rocks can threaten vehicles and workers.

Mining & Quarry Areas

Provides safety protection in mining zones where excavation or blasting can trigger rockfall events.

Infrastructure Near Cliffs

Safeguards bridges, dams, and infrastructure located near unstable rock formations.

JB Rockfall Barriers

JB Rockfall Barriers Specifications

We provide flexible rock fall barriers, both with and without rope retention, which are employed to mitigate impacts from falling blocks with energy levels reaching up to 5000.0 kJ. Other rigid structures like fences, galleries, and retention dams are also utilized for similar impact energies.

We design, manufacture, and install JB flexible rockfall barrier systems engineered for energy absorption capacities ranging from 500 to 3000 kJ, compliant with ETAG 027 / EAD standards or equivalent. Our systems use high-tensile galvanized steel wire mesh/ring nets, robust steel posts, support ropes, integrated energy dissipators, and site-specific anchoring solutions including grouted rock bolts or self-drilling anchors, ensuring durability and corrosion resistance in demanding environments.

Our barriers are typically installed at heights of 3 m to 6 m and are executed in strict accordance with engineered designs and manufacturer protocols to ensure reliable impact performance. We conduct all necessary quality checks, including anchor pull-out testing and final inspection, and provide a complete solution covering design, supply, and installation, with provisions to address challenging site conditions such as cavities or water ingress where required.
QUALITY AND MANUFACTURING STANDARDS

JB Engineering manufactures rockfall barrier systems using high-strength galvanized steel materials and advanced fabrication processes to ensure durability in harsh environmental conditions.

Our manufacturing standards include:

These quality standards ensure reliable performance in transportation infrastructure and slope stabilization projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
01. What is a rockfall barrier used for?

Rockfall barriers are used to protect infrastructure and people from falling rocks in mountainous or unstable terrain.

They are commonly installed along mountain highways, railways, tunnels, mining slopes, and infrastructure near steep cliffs.

Depending on the system design, barriers can absorb impact energies ranging from 100 kJ to over 5000 kJ.

Typical systems include steel mesh, anchor rods, support posts, cables, and energy-absorbing devices.

Yes. Rockfall barrier systems are designed according to site conditions, slope geometry, and expected rockfall energy levels.
